Panerai and BRABUS announced a partnership in 2021
In 2021, Panerai announced an interesting partnership with BRABUS, the ‘high-end tech-luxury brand’ from Bottrop, Germany. Founded in 1977, BRABUS began life tuning standard Mercedes-Benz models. However, it was not long before it applied its considerable talents to upgrading engines, bodywork, interiors and suspension. Today, the company offers a level of personalisation that is simply mindblowing, surpassing the desires of even the most demanding of clients.
The German marque has also applied its penchant for customisation to private jets and, more recently, high-performance boats. The brand’s foray into the latter luxury segment explains why it formed a partnership with Panerai, the Italian-Swiss watch company synonymous with the marine world.
Panerai – a rich tradition of making divers’ watches
Founded in 1860, in the beautiful city of Florence, Panerai has a long history of supplying the Royal Italian Navy with various specialist equipment, including timing mechanisms, depth gauges and mechanical calculators. Panerai produced the first military divers’ watch, the Panerai Radiomir, measuring 47mm in diameter and fitted with a Rolex movement. Numerous divers’ watches have since followed, often encompassing improvements. When it comes to making divers’ watches, Panerai’s legitimacy in the field is beyond doubt.
Today, an increasing number of luxury brands are looking beyond their traditional product portfolio and market segments, exploring new domains. For example, some jewellery companies now offer handbags, perfumes, hotels and retail estate. The cachet of the most prestigious brands serves as a reassuring indication of quality, expediting selection.

By joining their hands in marriage, Panerai and BRABUS have previously released two co-branded products to date, the Panerai Submersible S BRABUS Black OPS Edition (PAM01240) in 2021 and then last year’s Panerai Submersible S BRABUS Blue Shadow Edition (PAM01241). Clearly, these models have proved popular with both company’s devotees and has led to the release of the new Panerai Submersible S Brabus Verde Militare Edition PAM01283.
Carbotech™️ case and bezel
The PAM01283 looks ultra-modern, housed in a cutting-edge Carbotech™️ case with a matching unidirectional bezel. The judicious use of green hues imbues the PAM01283 with a sizeable dose of military chic, a look the brand recently embraced with the Panerai Submersible Forze Speciali Experience Edition (PAM01238).

The Submersible S Brabus Verde Militare Edition eschews a conventional dial, affording sight of several movement components as well as featuring an interesting lattice-work grille. Beyond displaying the hours, minutes and seconds, the PAM01283 features a ‘polarized date’ display, GMT, am/pm indicator, power-reserve indicator to the rear of the watch, seconds reset and an interesting function for calculating the immersion time whilst diving.
P.4000 caliber
Personally speaking, it’s the engine within this fire-breathing BRABUS model that particularly piques my interest. The P.4000 caliber is ‘the first automatic movement with an off-center micro-rotor developed by the Panerai Manufacture at Neuchâtel’. Equipped with two barrels, the movement will run autonomously for 3 days. The skeletonised chassis of the movement is presented in a neoteric black hue, a refreshing alternative to the ubiquitous silver-toned rhodium plating found on most calibres. Panerai has also equipped the P.4000 caliber with a free-sprung balance, promising superior performance to the usual raquette-based means of regulation.
