GMT stands for ‘Greenwich Mean Time’, describing the time at the prime meridian, which runs through Greenwich. GMT watches have a 24-hour hand that also displays a second time zone, in addition to the hands showing the hours, minutes and seconds. Making this the perfect watch for a frequent traveller who always likes to see what time it is at home.
The first GMT watch was created by Glycine in 1953. The Airman wristwatch was slightly different to the GMT we would see today, as it tracked time to a 24-hour scale on the dial which ran from 1-24, instead of 1-12.
