The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points was recently unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2026. Blessed with a sporty aesthetic, capable of indicating the local time and the prevailing hour at home, this expression of Haute Horlogerie has many attributes. We tasked Meehna Goldsmith, a lady who knows her way around a fine timepiece, with exploring this latest creation bearing the famous Maltese Cross emblem and the revered Poinçon de Genève hallmark.

I remember living in Manhattan on the Upper West Side. One day, I decided to walk through the park to the Upper East Side. After about 25 minutes of heading east, going around rocks, through groves and up hills, I arrived on the other side to the beeping lines of traffic on Fifth Avenue. I smiled, super proud of myself for making it across. Until I looked around. Something wasn’t right. I realised I was on Central Park West. Foiled again.
The four cardinal points of a compass
You have just read a confession of the directionally challenged. As you can probably imagine, reading a map presented its own confusions and deterred some exploration. With the advent of GPS, a whole new world of adventure opened up to me. The magical system that provides the underpinnings for digital GPS is based on the analogue four cardinal points of a compass: North, South, East and West. This is the foundation for all navigation and spatial orientation.
The cardinal points were critical for dead reckoning, which is estimating position using known speed, direction and time. Explorers of all types relied upon them. Here’s how it works: the magnetic compass aligns with Earth’s magnetic field, pointing roughly towards magnetic north, which actually drifts slightly from true geographic north.
And, if you look across civilisations you’ll see that cardinal directions carry meaning. Native traditions like Lakota and Navajo use the four directional points as a spiritual framework and Chinese cosmology associated each direction with a colour, season and guardian animal. To find the origin of the word ‘orientation’ just look to medieval European maps, where East was placed at the top to refer to ‘oriens’, which means rising sun. Even today cardinal points still have practical applications. They are the universal reference language for architecture, weather reporting, astronomy and military grid systems.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points – introduction
To honour human’s call to adventure and our positioning in the universe, Vacheron Constantin introduced the Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points at Watches and Wonders this year. Presented in four dial colours associated with cardinal points on the compass, the 41 mm titanium case and integrated bracelet is a lesson in aesthetics meeting functionality. The Cardinal Points models are an evolution of three models that debuted in 2019 and 2021. A special Overseas Dual Time prototype featuring a dark grey grained dial and titanium case debuted and was featured on the wrist of photographer and explorer Cory Richards on his Mount Everest climb attempt. Two years later, came two limited-edition Overseas Everest models inspired by the prototype, one with a Chronograph and the other a Dual Time model.

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points – four colours
The Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points comes in four different colours to indicate each of the cardinal points. According to Vacheron Constantin, ‘white represents the frozen North; brown suggests the continents and vast plains of the South; green represents West, evoking deep forests and tropical jungles; and blue symbolises a journey to the Eastern horizon where ocean and sky meet.’
Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points – case and dial
The Cardinal Points is a luxe picnic of materials and finishing. Chosen purposefully to highlight the cutaway notches in the bezel, which echo the shape of the Maltese Cross, the titanium bezel, crown and pusher ring feature a matte anthracite grey finish. Examine the dial and it’s a treat in texture with purpose. The grained centre dial not only adds visual interest, it minimises reflection, while light plays off the snailed finish of the date counter. Meanwhile, two concentric circles around the dial contain contrasting finishing: circular satin finish on the inner minutes track and lacquer on the external seconds track. Here, there’s a nod to precision with numerals marking every five seconds. A date display at 6 o’clock synchronises with the local time of your location, which is adjusted with a dedicated pusher. Orange hands indicating the AM/PM function and second time zone make them an easy read and also tie the collection together.
To mark the time, 18K white gold hour, minutes and seconds hands circle round 18K white gold applied hour-markers. Even the date hands are crafted in 18K white gold, and all hands are filled with blue Super-LumiNova for viewing in low-light conditions.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points – Calibre 5110 DT/3
Through the sapphire caseback, you can view the self-winding 5110 DT/3 that has all the trimmings to qualify it for the Geneva Seal. Decorations include perlage on the mainplate, both front and underneath, and visible bridges with Côtes de Genève. To highlight the beauty of the movement further, hand-bevelling is applied to chamfer and polish the edges of the components to create contour and light rippling across surfaces.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points – straps and bracelets
The Dual Time Cardinal Points Titanium is supplied with an integrated titanium bracelet (half Maltese cross-shaped polished and satin-brushed links), which is secured by a titanium triple-blade folding clasp with push-pieces to engage the VC Easy-fit system to change out straps without tools. In addition to the titanium bracelet, the timepiece has two other looks: an orange rubber strap for all models and a white, green, brown or blue rubber strap with orange saddle-stitch detail to match the respective dial colours – all interchangeable with the titanium folding clasp.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points – rugged
While many contenders in the luxury sports watch category can’t actually hold up in rugged conditions, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points earns its moniker. It’s constructed to hold up to the thrill of adventure with a water-resistance tested at a pressure of 15 bar (approx. 150 metres). It’s also proven in the field, taking the elements in its stride as demonstrated with its ascent of Everest.
Closing remarks
Although I wouldn’t trust myself to navigate Central Park without GPS, at least with the Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points on my wrist I’d feel very well oriented even while being lost.
