The inaugural expression, Littlemill Echoes of the Past Release Number One, part of a new four-part annual series: The Echoes of the Past Collection, offers whisky collectors and connoisseurs the chance to experience the evolving maturation of a single Littlemill cask over time.

To create the collection, the final custodians of Littlemill will draw just 50 bottles of precious spirit each year from a single maturing Oloroso sherry cask over four consecutive years. The remaining spirit will then be left to age further, permitting its flavour and complexity to intensify. Each subsequent release will catalogue the developing journey of this cask as the spirit acquires even more character from its Oloroso cask finishing.

The spirit selected for Echoes of the Past, an exceptional 34-year-old single malt, was originally distilled in 1990, during the final production years of Littlemill. It was then laid down initially in a refill American oak hogshead for 25 years, prior to being re-casked into a single Oloroso sherry barrel in 2015.

Master Blender Michael Henry and Littlemill’s final guardian, has selected the optimum moment to bottle the first release, to display the perfect harmony of Littlemill’s distinctive summertime fruit character with classic sherried and sweet floral spice notes.

Purchasers will be able to savour this extraordinarily rare echo of the past, as the release brings to the nose floral notes of rose petals and elderflower, in conjunction with elements of dried apricot, kiwi and peach. Hints of melted brown sugar, honeysuckle and ginger spice, together with citrus peel on the palate, creates a silk-like mouthfeel, before finishing with long languid layers of sweet citrus fruits.
