This watch, a recent addition to the Adamavi collection, shuns complexity, displaying merely hours, minutes, seconds and the date. There are no electronic gizmos on this timepiece and the case is made from understated stainless steel. Indeed, this watch goes back to basics with an honest, no-nonsense specification, designed with one purpose in mind, to succinctly convey the essentials of time.
The dial
The silver-toned dauphine-shaped hour and minutes possess a wonderful timeless quality, while clearly communicating the time. A lithe, silvery central seconds hand also circumscribes the dial. The sparing use of colour makes this watch a paragon of grace.
The silver dial surface features a muted vertical brush which is in stark contrast to the highly polished, rectangular indices. Positioned between each hour marker are neat black strokes, allowing easy interpretation of the minutes and seconds.
A date aperture is located at 3 o’clock. The date disc is white and marked with black numerals sans serifs. The scale of the date display, and the crisp font employed, help elucidate the indication.

The case
The dimensions of the Carl F. Bucherer Adamavi automatic 39mm reinforce the understated character of the watch. Surprisingly, each facet of the case is highly polished, a conspicuous detail which seems at odds with the discreet nature of the dial. However, in reality, the polished steel sits harmoniously adjacent the display.
The curved lugs protrude significantly from the case, making the watch appear larger than its stated 39mm diameter. A supremely flexible Milanese bracelet is affixed to the case. It is the supple nature of the bracelet which confers a cosseting embrace with the wrist. Moreover, the styling of the bracelet imbues the watch with a smart appearance befitting formal attire.
At the centre of the case-back is a pane of sapphire crystal, granting sight of the automatic movement within.
The movement
The Carl F. Bucherer Adamavi automatic 39mm is one of the Swiss company’s more affordable watches. While the design and finishing of the movement does not match the brand’s incredible CFB A2000 calibres, the CFB 1950 does include some desirable features. The bridges and mainplate are adorned with perlage, there is a profusion of blued screws and the barrel cover is decorated with a spiral-shaped motif.
Having spent some time with the Carl F. Bucherer Adamavi automatic 39mm, it is obvious that this timepiece is ideally suited to daily wear. The fitment of an automatic movement reinforces my opinion.
The CFB 1950 caliber contains 26 jewels and the lone spring barrel provides 38 hours of autonomy.
Closing remarks
Carl F. Bucherer has masterfully created a dial that shows the prevailing time and date in a user-friendly format. Dauphine-style hands have been used by the watchmaking industry for many years and, as such, proffer lasting appeal, unsullied by changing fashions. A key strength of this dial is that it elegantly conveys the essentials of time.
The Milanese bracelet imbues the watch with style and provides a comfortable union with the wrist. The automatic movement confers convenience to the wearer, negating the need to continuously wind the watch, making this timepiece ideal for daily use.
