Fabergé Colours of Love Eggsistence Watch Review
Fabergé, a name steeped in history and byword for indulgence, has just unveiled the Colours of Love Eggsistence. Offered in seven variants, the ultimate ovoid-shaped option is the Eggsistence Rose Gold Rainbow Gemstone Watch, recently shortlisted for this year’s GPHG in the Ladies’ category.

The name ‘Fabergé’ inevitably evokes thoughts of Romanov Palaces furnished with priceless artefacts, including works of art and bejewelled eggs. Peter Carl Fabergé created 50 Imperial Easter Eggs for the Romanov family between 1885 and 1916.
However, in recent times, Fabergé has also become known to horophiles courtesy of its watchmaking virtuosity. The Maison has crafted everything from the elegant Altruist, a three-hander featuring a guilloché dial, to the incredibly poetic Lady Compliquée Peacock with fanning feathers denoting the prevailing minutes. Like many of Peter Carl’s legendary eggs, the modern-day watches invariably feature a small egg-shaped reference or sometimes even a little surprise.

The brand’s horological prowess has not gone unnoticed by industry experts with the brand winning a GPHG prize back in 2015 for its Lady Compliquée Peacock. Now, the luxury marque has its sights set on silverware once again, releasing a glorious vision dressed in 18k rose gold and multicoloured gems. The Fabergé Colours of Love Eggsistence Rose Gold Rainbow Gemstone Watch has been shortlisted for this year’s GPHG in the Ladies’ category and, as its name implies, references the ovoid form beloved by the Romanovs.
Fabergé Colours of Love Eggsistence – seven variants
Offered in seven variants, the Fabergé Colours of Love Eggsistence comprises six references in steel and, the pièce de résistance, a top-of-the-range model housed in 18k rose gold. All timepieces indicate the hours, minutes and date with a notable degree of style. For example, the hour incorporates an openworked egg-shaped tip, floating above a sea of intricately formed guilloché. Forget the usual batons or uniform Arabics denoting the hours, Fabergé has ventured off-piste and opted for Daliesque surrealism. The numerals, ‘5’, ‘8’ and ’12’ meld into one another, bestowing a deliciously idiosyncratic aesthetic.
Three of the models eschew gems, seducing the wearer with a blend of bright hues, guilloché dial detail and the convenience of a self-winding movement. However, when discussing Fabergé, gems are never far away and appear on the other four references, including the ultimate expression of ‘Eggsistence’, the Fabergé Colours of Love Eggsistence Rose Gold Rainbow Gemstone Watch (the variant shortlisted for a GPHG prize in the Ladies’ category).
Fabergé Colours of Love Eggsistence Rose Gold Rainbow Gemstone Watch
As the name suggests, the Fabergé Colours of Love Eggsistence Rose Gold Rainbow Gemstone Watch (Reference 1786WA3556/3) s housed in an 18k rose gold case. It measures 28 x 35 mm and has an opalin guilloché dial. The domed bezel is set with 47 round gemstones, including rubies, mixed sapphires, amethysts, peridots and tsavorites. The gems also extend to the curvaceous hour markers which collectively feature 106 brilliant-cut white diamonds.

And, if the Eggsistence wasn’t already über-ravishing, Fabergé has introduced an interchangeable strap system, allowing the wearer to change the appearance of the strap without the need for additional tools. The Eggsistence Rose Gold Rainbow Gemstone Watch is supplied on a white strap but also comes with additional black and grey straps. Moreover, the brand offers alternative straps to complement any Haute Couture ensemble.
