The Longines Legend Diver Bronze is the latest version of the 1960s-themed divers’ watch. In 2007, the Swiss firm released a steel replica of the reference 7150-1, a non-date model. Over the years, the brand from Saint-Imier has released a gold version as well as a reference with a date indication. Now, the firm has unveiled a new 42mm bronze model with a titanium caseback and sans date.

The first reproduction of a Longine 1960x divers’ watch (2007)

In 2007, the brand released a faithful reproduction of a 1960s divers’ watch, the reference 7150-1, a non-date model. Two years later, in 2009, Longines presented a near-identical watch, but with a date indication.

When Longines produced the original watch, professional underwater exploration and diving for military purposes were very common. Professionals sought suitable timepieces capable of deepwater use and Longines became a significant player in this market segment.

Longines Legend Diver Watch – two crowns

The reproduction versions of the Longines Legend Diver feature two crowns gracing the right flank of the case with the upper crown rotating the internal bezel. Modern-day versions are housed in a choice of 42 mm stainless steel or 18-carat gold and endowed with a self-winding movement.

Now, the esteemed brand from Saint-Imier has unveiled a new version of the Longines Legend Diver Watch, housed in a 42mm bronze case. In this instance, the usual black lacquered dial has been set aside in favour of a shaded green lacquered dial.

An endearing aspect of bronze is that it evolves with time, acquiring a patina which bestows a characterful appearance. Bronze contains nickel which can provoke an adverse skin reaction in a small percentage of the population, however, Longines has cleverly fitted a titanium caseback to the watch. This latter lightweight metal is hypoallergenic making it ideal for skin-contact components.

Its shaded green lacquered dial is covered with a sapphire crystal box and sports luminous hands, hour markers with squares coated with Super-LumiNova® and Arabic numerals enhanced with luminescent rectangles for optimal readability, a reminder of the codes of the sport for which this watch was originally intended. And just like on the original model, the screw-down case back is decorated with an embossed emblem of a diver. The watch is paired with a brown leather strap finished with beige topstitching, and comes with a second strap in green NATO-type nylon.
