In 2001, MeisterSinger unveiled its first model, the No.1. Now, the Münster-based firm, currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, unveils a new single-hand model, the MeisterSinger Panthero Jumping Hour, subscribing to the brand’s single-hand approach but with a delightful twist.
A charming paradox
I love a good paradox. The kind that makes you stop, think and then smile. I’m particularly fond of the grandfather paradox: if you travel back in time to stop your grandfather from asking out your grandmother, how do you even exist to ruin their first date? It’s the kind of puzzle that reminds us time can be mischievous, despite all our attempts to wrestle it into perfect precision.
The new MeisterSinger Panthero Jumping Hour presents an equally delightful contradiction: a watch that lulls us into enjoying time without marking every second, while at the same time delivering a dramatic hourly reminder that reality does exist. This timepiece fits perfectly within the MeisterSinger philosophy, yet also playfully pokes fun at the premise.

Meistersinger seit 2001
It was twenty-five years ago in Münster, Germany, when Manfred Brassler introduced the MeisterSinger №01, establishing the single-hand concept in the context of a wristwatch. Historically, pocket watches, table clocks and tower clocks displayed time with only one hand. Minute and seconds hands didn’t come into existence until the 18th century.
The MeisterSinger №01 took its cue from Bauhaus design. With a dial inspired by measuring instruments, it featured a long, needle-like hour hand, a finely graduated outer scale and large, two-digit numerals. But the watch signalled more than a shift in aesthetics. It proposed a different way of thinking about time. Rather than measuring it with relentless precision, the watch encouraged wearers to experience it with intention. By removing the minute and seconds hands, MeisterSinger invited a slower, less anxious relationship with the passing hours. In a culture defined by constant notifications, multitasking and optimisation, that sense of reprieve now feels less like nostalgia and more like a necessary luxury.

MeisterSinger Panthero Jumping Hour – dial
Over the years, the brand showed both aesthetic and technical virtuosity by including models with day, date, second time zones, moon phases, striking hours and proprietary movements. For the brand’s 25th anniversary, MeisterSinger celebrates by introducing the Panthero Jumping Hour. Like the animal that inspired its name, the Panthero appears almost motionless. Panthers are ambush hunters, capable of remaining still for long stretches, conserving energy, watching, waiting. Then, without warning, they move. The Panthero captures that same tension. For nearly sixty minutes, time seems to glide. And then, in an instant, the hour jumps suddenly and precisely, making it impossible to ignore.

To frame this elegant theatre, MeisterSinger constructed an entirely new case for the Panthero. Measuring 40.5 mm in diameter, it feels contemporary but shows restraint. The choice of a slim bezel allows the scene on the dial to take centre stage. The jumping hour is situated in a round window located at the 12 o’clock position within an off-centre minute ring. It’s here that the single, sculpted hand, a signature of the brand, follows its lonely journey from 0 to 60, before a new hour value snaps into view.

This composition adds tension, depth and drama. The largest surface on the dial is neither the minute ring nor the hour window, but the expansive field of uninterrupted colour that surrounds them. That negative space is not simply decorative, it shapes the experience of the watch. It slows down the eye and creates a sense of calm, reinforcing MeisterSinger’s long-standing philosophy of stepping back from the constant measurement of time. While it creates a tranquil canvas, the design also heightens anticipation. That stillness makes the hour jump defined and sharp; and a bit of a surprise. I love this tightrope walk between restraint and drama that gives the Panthero a paradoxical relationship with time.

The fermata – MeisterSinger’s logo
Tucked beneath the minute ring and opposite the jumping hour is a small kinetic sun, rotating with each tick of a second. If you look closely you’ll see the shape of the fermata, which is MeisterSinger’s logo. The emblem features on the crown, presented in relief. A fermata is a musical symbol that cues a performer to hold a note or rest longer than usual – perfectly on theme and representative of the brand.
MeisterSinger Panthero Jumping Hour – guilloché or lacquered dials
The Panthero anniversary edition comes in a limited set of 25 pieces and features a silver guilloché dial crafted by an artisan using a manually operated rose-engine lathe. Complementing the dial are the minute track, hand and sun-shaped wheel, all finished in a metallic anthracite tone that provides contrast with the engraved sections. The model is paired with a brown calf leather strap with crocodile embossing.

Two other models join the regular collection, both endowed with high-gloss lacquered dials, executed in either black or white, intended to resemble the appearance of ‘piano lacquer’.

MeisterSinger Panthero Jumping Hour – straps and bracelets
To create contrast, the hand and sun on the black model are white and paired with a glossy black calfskin strap with crocodile embossing. The white model does the opposite, uniting a black hand and sun, secured to the wrist with a tone-on-tone crocodile-embossed calfskin strap. However, choice extends to Milanese, vintage or other leather straps to suit your preference.

MeisterSinger Panthero Jumping Hour – calibre MS-JH-01
Through the exhibition caseback, the calibre MS-JH-01 is on view, which offers a 47-hour power reserve. Using the workhorse Sellita SW300 as a base, MeisterSinger engineered a jumping hour module to work in conjunction. MeisterSinger’s eye for design never falters, even backstage. The logo and central ring around the rotor are composed of anthracite, while ‘the rotor’s silhouette is inspired by the outline of three interlocking fermatas’.
Closing remarks
Like the grandfather paradox, the Panthero offers a knowing wink at time. Its passing is never quite as obedient as we’d like. It can feel relaxing or compressed and sometimes like it will never end. But uncertainty makes life rich and interesting. MeisterSinger has spent a quarter of a century exploring this tension and the Panthero Jumping Hour captures it with particular clarity. For most of the hour it’s a calm passage, and then, suddenly, a dramatic reminder that time continues to move on.
