The Swiss / Danish brand, Urban Jürgensen, has unveiled its new headquarters in Biel/Bienne. The four floor historical mansion has been extensively renovated, employing the finest craftsmen to execute each restorative task.
The mansion boasts approximately 600 m² of floor space. The beautifully appointed building includes oak inlaid floors, stucco ceilings, ornate panelling and elaborate wooden staircase balustrades. Mindful of its Danish/Swiss origins, the interior decor embraces elements from both countries including, USM Haller and Erik Jørgensen furniture and Louis Polsen lamps.
In order to provide the perfect environment for the artisanal creation of timepieces, the impressive historic villa has been thoughtfully laid out. Indeed, this 1920s mansion has been carefully renovated in every minute detail to ensure it provides the perfect ambience for producing timepieces par excellence.
The sympathetic restoration of the villa confers a high degree of historical authenticity which the brand’s owners hope will permeate to the very watches created within the mansion. Urban Jürgensen timepieces draw upon historical handcrafted techniques when making their watches. It was therefore fitting that the mansion has eschewed modernity and automation in favour of traditional artisanal methods.
The company has stated it intends to uphold various watchmaking traditions such as the hand-bluing of screws and hands. Moreover, the company will produce an array of components itself as well as assemble its watches in-house, further reinforcing the brand’s impressive independence.
Søren Petersen, CEO of Urban Jürgensen stated, ‘Our new home will provide not only our much cherished atelier, but also the additional space we need to accommodate production of our products – all made with a level of handcrafted detail found nowhere else in a single watch today’.
After making a successful appearance at Baselworld earlier this year, together with opening its new headquarters in Biel/Bienne, there seems to be no stopping this exemplar of haute horlogerie going from strength to strength.
