Perrelet Weekend Collection Green Dials
The Perrelet Weekend Collection has always delivered an impressive blend of timeless beauty, universally appealing 39mm cases and in-house movements. Now, the Swiss marque has unveiled new green dials which imbue the model with a very different, slightly flamboyant character. Angus Davies shares his observations.

Watch styles
I have a guilty secret. At night, I love nothing more than lying in bed and watching music videos on YouTube. I know I should be reading about history, politics or philosophy, but alas it is Queen, the Beatles and Radiohead that pass the time as another day draws to an end. While each group has its own style, they all have produced a diverse body of work, cleverly sidestepping predictability. No self-respecting recording artist or group wishes to be typecast. Likewise, watch brands may have a ‘house style’, but they often strive to avoid being linked to one model alone.

Perrelet Turbine and LAB models
Perrelet is probably best known for its Turbine models, however, in 2021, the firm released its eye-catching LAB models, attracting much attention from the media and the public alike. These watches, with their multifaceted cases and intricately formed dials, are very different from the Turbine references. However, the brand also produces another range of models, the Weekend collection. Again, these timepieces are very different in temperament from the Turbine, but no less appealing. The Weekend collection comprises three models, including a three-hander, GMT and a three-hander with ‘open heart’. All references are contemporary and endowed with pure, uncluttered lines.

Perrelet Weekend Collection
Launched in 2019, the Perrelet Weekend collection has always been more string quartet than power ballad with its classical dials offered in shades of silver, blue and black. Sensible, practical and timeless are all words that could be applied to the Weekend collection. Indeed, fast forward to a point 20 years in the future and I predict the watches will still appear fresh-faced.

Perrelet Weekend 3-hands, Weekend GMT and Weekend 3-Hands Open Heart
The Perrelet Weekend 3-Hands indicates the hours, minutes, seconds and date. The dial is clean and unfussy and eminently simple to understand with slender hands and slim elongated batons granting a sense of elegance. The Weekend GMT shares much in common with the 3-Hands, but incorporates an additional red-tipped hand and a recessed 24-hour track, providing the means to display the time at home. Lastly, the final member of this horological triumvirate is the Weekend 3-Hands Open Heart. This model repeats the hours, minutes and seconds medley, but eschews the date. However, this model has an interesting aperture at the base of the dial, revealing the balance wheel oscillating to and fro, making it the ideal choice for horological voyeurs.

Each model is housed in a 39mm steel case, a size that will suit most wrists. All cases are 9.56mm in height, reinforcing the seemly, urbane theme as well as promising to be unobtrusive when worn. Perrelet also offers steel cases with 4N PVD coating for a faux rose gold look. The models are available on a choice of calf leather strap or 7-row steel bracelet. All models are fitted with an in-house automatic movement, a detail seldom found at this price level.

Perrelet Weekend Collection Green Dials
Now, the Swiss watch brand synonymous with inventing the automatic movement in 1777, has released new green sunray dials for all three of its Weekend models. The rich verdant green hue employed on each reference looks very different. The conservative character of the silver and black dials has been set aside in favour of a more flamboyant appearance. It seems remarkable that a different dial colour can have such a pronounced influence on a model’s character, but in this instance it clearly does. Indeed, while green has become very popular over the last couple of years, this particular shade is quite distinctive and evinces a notable degree of freshness and vitality.

The Perrelet Weekend delivers an impressive quality-price ratio and deserves to succeed. Indeed, while it may have been overshadowed in the past by its Turbine and LAB siblings, the new green dial options may change the way the Weekend is viewed in the future.
