Few watchmakers have aligned themselves so closely with the pursuit of speed as TAG Heuer. The brand is synonymous with the adrenaline-rich world of motorsport. Indeed, its iconic Carrera was inspired by the Carrera Panamericana, the treacherous road race staged in Mexico from 1950 to 1954.
The avant-garde watchmaker has had a continuous presence in the paddock for decades and currently holds the role of Official Timekeeper for Formula 1. The Carrera has always been the product of thoughtful design with its minimal bezel, spacious dial and pump pushers all perpetuating Jack Heuer’s vision of what a chronograph should look like. This latest release marks the first GMT complication to feature within the Carrera Extreme Sport collection and should resonate with petrolheads and globetrotters alike.
Since the inaugural Carrera was released in 1963, the model has been supplied with various complications. Moreover, the Swiss marque has executed the watch in two styles: a classical design that evinces a slightly dressy appearance and the Extreme Sport, a bolder, casual ownership proposition.
The Carrera Chronograph Extreme Sport Twin-Time ref. CBU2084.FT6297 is endowed with a skeletonised dial exposing the engine beneath the hood. The dial is framed with a dual-colour ceramic bezel, marked with a 24-hour scale. When used in combination with the GMT hand, the wearer can easily determine whether the ‘home hour’ is day or night.

Crafted from Grade 2 titanium, the 44 mm case of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Extreme Sport Twin-Time is dressed in a mix of fine-brushed and sandblasted finishes. Aside from its non-magnetic and hypoallergenic properties, the lightweight metal has a subtle matte appearance. Suffice to say, TAG Heuer has achieved the perfect balance between utility and refinement with this skeleton reference. Furthermore, the openworked dial grants views of several components normally hidden from view.
The fine-grained, black PVD case features hollowed-out flanks, evoking thoughts of a racing car’s body having been honed within a wind tunnel. These carved recesses wonderfully engage with light, heightening the overall allure of the watch.
The previously mentioned fixed 24-hour ceramic bezel is another technical highlight. It is the brand’s first foray into crafting dual-colour ceramics from a single block. The black and green-teal tones meet precisely at the halfway mark, creating a crisp line that separates day from night. This approach remains rare with most brands taking the far simpler route of fusing two separate pieces of ceramic. The bezel’s black and teal hues perfectly complement the watch’s rubber strap and dial elements.
The new Extreme Sport Twin Time sapphire crystal is also bevelled and domed, accentuating the sculpted appearance of the watch. Furthermore, the watch is water resistant to 100 m.

The dial of the new TAG Heuer Carrera Extreme Sport Twin-Time watch is unapologetically modern – skeletonised, layered and supremely legible. There is always a risk with any open-worked dial that the display can appear somewhat chaotic; however, in this instance, legibility and dial depths happily co-exist.
A black flange marked with a minute track gives way to a teal-toned track that features a ¼-second scale, while the GMT hand sports a prominent red tip. Meanwhile, the snailed sub-counters at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock, resembling dashboard gauges, are framed with rhodium-plated circlets that toy with light.
The polished hands incorporate a thin line of black lacquer and are teamed with facetted rhodium-plated hour markers. Both the hands and indexes are lined with white Super-LumiNova and bestow a green emission in dim light.
TAG Heuer Carrera Extreme Sport Twin-Time – movement
An exhibition caseback grants sight of the automatic Calibre TH20-02. This is a variation of the brand’s in-house chronograph movement, the Calibre TH20-00, but with the addition of a GMT function. The movement features the optimum pairing of a column wheel and vertical clutch. This arrangement delivers a silky-smooth pushpiece action. Furthermore, once actuated, the central chronograph hand commences its journey without any discernible hesitation or stuttering.
The Calibre TH20-02 has an impressive 80-hour power reserve and boasts a shield-shaped rotor, a teal-toned column wheel and bridges adorned with Côtes de Genève motif.
