Jumping Hour Watches

As is the case with the majority of watches, the hour marker will gradually move across the dial. But with jumping hour watches, the hour hand ‘leaps’ to the next hour as soon as 60 minutes has passed. Pairing a contemporary touch with an innovative mechanical movement.

The first known example of this was invented by Austrian watchmaker, Josef Pallweber, in 1883. His design displayed the hours and minutes in large numerals on rotating discs, which was a truly pioneering concept for its time in comparison to the two-hand analogue displays many wearers had been used to before.
