The Cool Hunting + NOMOS Club Campus 38 Limited Edition Pride Models
The Cool Hunting + NOMOS Club Campus 38 Limited Edition Pride Models are a series of colourful watches, available in a choice of six colours that reference the hues found on the LGBTQ rainbow flag. The sale of this watch will raise necessary funds in support of The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organisation for LGBTQ young people.
Society is a rich tapestry of colours and textures. Subtle shades and different weaves define who we are. It is this tapestry which enriches the lives of all. Indeed, how would it be if everyone was the same?
Sadly, not everyone in life is accepting of differences. Indeed, there are some individuals who espouse intolerance and sometimes demonstrate hatred towards others. Over the years, the LGBTQ community has gained its voice and helped to unite men and women who are proud of who they are and share beliefs in common.
NOMOS Glashütte, the German watch company, has recently worked with COOL HUNTING in order to celebrate Pride and support The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organisation for LGBTQ young people.
COOL HUNTING is an independent publication that focusses on design, culture and technology. Making it the ideal partner for NOMOS, a brand that is widely admired for its design prowess and appreciation of craftsmanship.
The Cool Hunting + NOMOS Club Campus 38 Limited Edition Pride Models are based on the German marque’s popular Club Campus 38 watch, but delivered in the six colours that can be found on the LGBTQ rainbow flag. Each model is limited to just 22 pieces.
As well as helping a worthy cause, purchasers can also look forward to the joy of NOMOS ownership. Each timepiece is equipped with a beautifully finished, in-house hand-wound Alpha calibre coupled with sublime aesthetics. Unusually, the indexes on the dial comprise of Arabic numerals in the upper dial area with Roman numerals in the area below.
The brand’s press release (August 2020)
A limited-edition mechanical watch collaboration honouring and supporting the vibrancy of the global LGBTQI+ community, award-winning German watchmaker NOMOS Glashütte and international design publication COOL HUNTING’s Club Campus 38 Pride models channel the power of the rainbow and all that it represents. The collection’s six bold colours, each limited to 22 watches, lean into the original meaning behind each hue: Life (red), Sunlight (yellow), Serenity (blue), Healing (orange), Nature (green) and Spirit (violet).
These all-gender 38.5mm wristwatches come with the brand’s in-house Alpha NOMOS calibre manual winding movement. Each caseback includes the individual watch number and exclusive engraving. From the domed sapphire glass crystal to the woven, waterproof textile strap, the line is designed to be worn every day with pride. Nuances include the monochromatic seconds sub-dial and the Club Campus 38’s signature variation between Arabic and Roman numerals.
The sale of each watch yields a $100 donation to The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning) young people. Both NOMOS and COOL HUNTING recognize that a collaboration celebrating Pride all year long requires a charitable partnership. Having observed, supported and partnered with The Trevor Project in the past, we knew first-hand of their life-saving work.
“To be able to create this watch collection with NOMOS and raising $13,200 for The Trevor Project is an incredible privilege,” says Josh Rubin, COOL HUNTING’s co-founder and Executive Creative Director. “We love when a brand is game for us to combine design and social good.” says Evan Orensten, COOL HUNTING’s co-founder and Executive Editor.
NOMOS watchmaker Kerstin Bohls adds that “Mechanical watches, which are built completely in-house at NOMOS Glashütte, are a sustainable product. As a watchmaker, it is a great joy that the work I do every day is sent around the world. And when they also support a good cause, like this limited-edition Pride collection, it’s particularly fulfilling. I hope that the wearers enjoy having these watches on their wrists!”
“Any time an opportunity to collaborate arises I think of ways to represent the queer community I’m a part of,” says Editor in Chief David Graver, who is leading the project. “With NOMOS, I had the privilege of touring their design centre, Berlinerblau, in 2016. While there, I pulled open a drawer and saw hundreds of variations on the colour red. Another drawer revealed the same for orange. Then blue. For this collaboration, I thought on the colours in those drawers and I knew NOMOS could bring the rainbow to life in their own way.”
