Vacheron Constantin Overseas self-winding 35 mm Watch Review
The new Vacheron Constantin Overseas self-winding 35 mm Reference 4605V/200R-B968 features a golden dial embellished with a sunburst satin-finish that’s dressed in transparent lacquer. Its case subscribes to the beloved Overseas aesthetic but in this instance features a diamond-set bezel incorporating 90 round-cut diamonds. Presented on a gold bracelet, the specification also includes two additional straps, one in white calfskin and a second in white rubber, making the watch a highly versatile ownership proposition.
Vacheron Constantin Watch Review
The economic laws of supply and demand dictate that scarce watches will usually attract a premium. Clearly, Vacheron Constantin has recognised this by launching a new marketing campaign, entitled ‘One of not Many’. The brand’s timepieces are scarce not because supply is artificially restricted but rather because of their protracted creation.
It is the firm’s esteemed reputation for making sublime watches that has led to it becoming a paid-up member of the ‘Holy Trinity of Watchmaking’, sitting on high, adjacent rival marques Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe.
Vacheron Constantin depuis 1996
While being steeped in traditions, the Genevan marque does not dwell in the past. First released in 1996, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas has always looked decidedly contemporary. However, in 2016, the watch firm ‘reinvented’ the model and began releasing new variants of its modern-day sports watch. In recent times, the Swiss marque has released Overseas models equipped with a variety of complications, executed in different case materials and an array of bewitching dial colours.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas self-winding 35 mm – One of Not Many
Now, the Manufacture has just unveiled a new feminine variant of its much-coveted model, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas self-winding 35 mm Reference 4605V/200R-B968. As part of the creative process, it consulted ‘One of Not Many’ talents, Zaria Forman.
Who is Zaria Forman?
Ms Forman is an American artist who visits arctic wastelands and photographs various scenes such as the dynamic appearance of melting icebergs, constantly kissed by rising seas. Back in her studio, she replicates the images taken on location by sketching an outline on vast canvases before employing her unique ‘finger painting’ technique using pigments applied with her digits and palms. In some cases she crushes pastels into the canvas, to create rich textures.

In some of her work, Zaria depicts the icy arctic plains as seen from above, as if she were soaring over the Earth. Often her representation of the frozen landscape resembles a series of crystalline structures in various shades of white and blue. When viewing her work, her audience is transported to a rapidly changing world which is steadily diminishing in size as a consequence of climate change.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas self-winding 35 mm – dial
This new Overseas self-winding 35 mm wholeheartedly embraces white hues with its luminescent dial detail, date disc and accompanying straps.

The luminescent hour and minute hands along with the golden dial, harmoniously match the colour of the case. The dial surface is adorned with a sunburst satin-finish which is subsequently coated with clear lacquer. The applied indexes introduce depth to the sun-kissed vista and, once again, incorporate slivers of luminescent fill. In between the indexes, neat black marks denote each minute/second, aiding readability.
Revealed at 3 o’clock via a framed aperture, the date display features black numerals sat atop a white disc. A centre seconds hand completes the inventory of functions.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas self-winding 35 mm – case
The bezel incorporates the House emblem, namely the Maltese cross, and is enlivened with 90 round-cut diamonds. Vacheron Constantin does not state if this detail was the product of Zaria’s input; however, it certainly evokes images of glistening ice.

Measuring 9.33 mm in height, the case does not unduly protrude from the wrist, appearing elegant when worn. The watch is supplied on an 18K pink gold bracelet, again incorporating references to the Maltese Cross.

Vacheron Constantin Overseas self-winding 35 mm – additional straps
Vacheron Constantin supplies the watch with two additional straps, one in white calfskin leather and a second in white rubber. The Manufacture has equipped the model with an ‘interchangeable system’ allowing the wearer to swap the bracelet for a strap without the need for tools.
Calibre 1088/1
The Overseas self-winding 35 mm model is equipped with the Calibre 1088.1. Visible via an exhibition caseback, the movement is beautiful. The bridges are adorned with traditional Côtes de Genève, while the oscillating mass is crafted in 22-carat gold and includes the firm’s famous compass rose motif.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas self-winding 35 mm – closing thoughts
The addition of this new reference to the Overseas collection broadens the appeal of its much-loved sports watch. The dial and case confer a subtle marriage of golden tones while the diamond-set bezel adds a tasteful quotient of glamour.

With the ability to swap between the bracelet and the two additional straps provided, the Swiss Manufacture has created a watch that will suit a multitude of social settings. Furthermore, the self-winding movement makes this a highly practical ownership proposition, ideally suited to daily wear.
Packed with lots of horological loveliness, this model upholds the Maison’s reputation for excellence and will be a rare sight due to its time-consuming creation. After all, as the brand is at pains to point out, this watch is ‘One of not Many’.
