Glashütte – the epicentre of German watchmaking
Glashütte is located in Saxony, a charming town that is the epicentre of German watchmaking. Whenever I have visited this horological enclave set in the Ore Mountains, I have always been struck by the self-effacing nature of its local inhabitants. There is a refreshing simplicity, devoid of conspicuous consumption. On the other hand, by way of contrast, this picturesque town makes some of the finest expressions of luxury watchmaking.
‘Disco Blue’ and ‘Vibing Orange’ dials
Once again, I’m reminded of the idea of ‘contrasts’ with the arrival of two limited edition chronographs from Glashütte Original. Every now and again, the German Manufactory releases limited edition models, appointed in eye-popping hues. On this occasion, the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date 2022 has looked to the 1970s and, in particular, the disco era. Tank-top-clad, flares-wearing, platform-heel-loving Travolta wannabes can choose from ‘Disco Blue’ and ‘Vibing Orange’ dials. Et voilà! Watches that evoke a smile with their nostalgic hues.

However, the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date 2022 is an accomplished piece of work. It juxtaposes fun with a notable degree of serious watchmaking.
