Breitling and rugby

Rugby is a highly synchronised game where everyone has to work in concert for a team to succeed. It’s crucial that everyone has precise execution or else there can be a breakdown and the system will fail. Like this popular sport, a watch also has to do a delicate ballet where each component must work together in order to function properly.

The 2025 Guinness Six Nations Championships

In celebration of this beloved sport, Breitling has released the Chronomat Six Nations limited edition series. The brand has more than just a passing interest in rugby. The 2025 Guinness Six Nations Championships marks Breitling’s fourth season as the Official Timing Partner and exclusive luxury watch partner to all six unions that make up Six Nations Rugby, namely England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France and Italy. In addition, both the sport and Breitling have long traditions. Six Nations Rugby, the oldest international rugby tournament in the world, was established in 1883. Likewise, Breitling can trace its roots to 1884.

Although the majority of limited editions for sport are designed and destined for male wrists, this collection honours women too. “You can feel the energy of rugby’s greatest championship and all six unions in these limited editions, created by Breitling for this partnership”, says Breitling CEO Georges Kern. “We are proud to be the official timekeeper of Six Nations Ruby, supporting both men’s and women’s rugby, and celebrate the bold spirit of a sport that resonates with Breitling’s sense of purpose.”

Breitling Six Nations Chronomat Limited Edition – Automatic GMT 40 mm

The limited editions come in two different models representing each of the six unions. There’s the Chromomat Automatic GMT 40 mm for men and the Chronomat 32 mm to cater to daintier female wrist sizes, although the 40 mm size and the second time zone function will also appeal to women fans. Both echo the rugby pitch with a textured dial paired with alternating matte and horizontal brush finishes. Moreover, the dial takes on a metaphorical aspect, the play of light offering a view of both ‘grit and elegance to reflect rugby off and on the field’.

The GMT 40 mm, limited to 250 pieces, comes with a dial representing the shade of each nation in the championship. The dial also displays the union’s name in its local language in a second contrasting colour. On the back of the watch, the case is engraved with the union crest along with ‘Six Nations Rugby’ and ‘One of 250’. With the GMT function, rugby fans can see ‘local time’ and ‘home time’ simultaneously, the ideal complication when travelling overseas. The GMT 40 mm houses the Breitling Caliber 32 with a 42-hour power reserve and is water resistant to 200 m.

Breitling Six Nations Chronomat Limited Edition 32 mm

With women’s rugby becoming increasingly popular, Breitling has shrewdly released the limited edition Chronomat 32mm, introducing a unique colour palette never before used in the collection. The dials also feature yellow gold indexes, wonderfully complementing the various dial hues available. Like the Chronomat 40 mm, the caseback is engraved with the union crest and ‘Six Nations Rugby’, along with ‘One of 75’ in reference to the limited edition. Equipped with the Breitling manufacture Caliber 77, a COSC-certified SuperQuartz movement, it promises to keep precise time. The watch is water resistant to 100 m.

The Breitling Chronomat also has a storied history. It was first launched in 1983 as the official watch for the Frecce Tricolori, the aerobatic demonstration team of the Italian Air Force. Characterised by the onion crown and the distinctive Rouleaux bracelet, it immediately became a highlight in Breitling’s lineup. Although first designed for aviation, the sports watch became so popular that it was adopted by racecar drivers, regatta teams and other endurance athletes.
