Carl F. Bucherer, the high-end Swiss watch manufacturer based in Lucerne, has launched a new version of its popular timepiece, the Patravi ScubaTec. This timepiece has been produced in support of the Manta Trust, a UK registered charity whose mission is to protect these magnificent sea creatures and champion their conservation.
This summer, Carl F. Bucherer will produce 188 unique timepieces and offer them for sale. ‘Part of the sales proceeds’ will help finance research into the manta rays and their habitat. It is planned for a team of experts to spend two weeks at sea, monitoring the manta rays, looking at their feeding habits. Sadly, manta rays have become threatened by over fishing. The research will gather vital information, essential to the survival of this incredible species.
Carl F. Bucherer has supported The Manta Trust for a number of years, but this is the first time the watch manufacturer has produced a limited edition timepiece dedicated to the charity’s fundraising efforts.
Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec Manta Trust – a true diver’s watch
This is a true diver’s watch. The new limited edition Patravi ScubaTec Manta Trust is a true diver’s watch, equipped with a helium valve and capable of withstanding depths of 500 metres. Moreover, the watch has a unidirectional bezel and crown protection device. The hands and indices are treated with luminescent coating, ensuring excellent visibility underwater or in restricted lighting conditions. The dial is ridged and features two manta rays gracefully spanning its surface.
Gracing the dorsal plane of the watch is an engraving of the stomach of a manta ray as viewed with an underwater camera by Manta Trust CEO Guy Stevens and his team. The depiction of the manta ray is accompanied by an identification number engraved into the case back. This individual number allows the owner of the timepiece to access a website with the unique code and potentially name their individual manta ray.
Sacha Moeri, CEO of Carl F. Bucherer aptly summarised the rationale for the project stating, ‘By purchasing this model, watch connoisseurs not only become the proud owner of a truly unique timepiece, they also contribute to the conservation of manta rays.’
