Oris Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy
The Oris Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy returns. The three vividly-hued dials unveiled last year remain, but this time each variant is fitted with a new colour-coordinated Perlon strap. Housed in a 38mm bronze case, the model is unisex, unconventional and deliciously fresh.
In the world of horology, dials have a tendency to be black, blue, green, salmon or white. Occasionally, a brand will explore the boundaries of what is considered good taste. There have been instances of brown, purple and red dials, however, watch companies usually temper such creativity, mindful that commercial failure could spell the end of a promising career.
A bold decision
Last year, Oris released the Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy. It has produced ‘regular’ Sixty-Five diving-themed watches for some time, however, these confectionery-inspired references proved very different. Indeed, Oris chose to venture off-piste, turning out three dial variants in unconventional tones: sky blue, wild green and lipstick pink.
Thankfully, the spirited models were a resounding success. Indeed, the Swiss marque has now returned with new versions of the Oris Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy. The bronze bracelet and leather strap fitted to last year’s models are now joined by new recycled Perlon straps. Presented in three colour-coordinated shades, the new straps seem to accentuate the cheerful character of the aforementioned dials.
The 38mm bronze case, first seen on last year’s Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy, makes a repeat performance. The alloy, often associated with historic divers’ helmets, acquires a becoming patina with time. Underscoring the model’s subaquatic remit, the watch is fitted with a unidirectional bezel, incorporating a count-up scale presented in relief.
The Oris 733 (base Sellita SW200-1)
The Swiss brand has chosen to equip this model with the Oris 733. This self-winding movement is based on the Sellita SW200-1, contains 26 jewels and has a power-reserve of 38 hours. The solid stainless steel caseback shuns any form of glazing in favour of an engraved depiction of the company’s logo.
Closing remarks
The bright hues may suggest that the Oris Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy is intended for a female audience. Undoubtedly, the 38mm case diameter should suit the majority of feminine wrists. However, irrespective of gender, there are many individuals who yearn to be different, shun convention and embrace new ideas. These latest models sate such desires, fusing practicality with deliciously fresh aesthetics.
Oris has dared to be bold, showing a willingness to take risks when many brands would have chosen to play it safe. Clearly courageous, the Swiss brand has delivered three edgy references that look spectacular, vindicating the decision-making skills of the firm’s management team. Perhaps it’s time for everyone to embrace colour.
