Young Spirits Uhuru

Young Spirits – a passion for African wildlife

Founded by two really dynamic young entrepreneurs, Young Spirits introduced Uhuru a collection of safari-inspired spirits that create positive environmental change, as every bottle of Uhuru sees 10% of net sales proudly donated to their charity partner, Tusk.

Inspired by the team’s personal experience of visiting elephants through multiple trips to Africa, where they learnt about the growing concerns over their vulnerable status. They felt that more could be done to save these animals and help the fight against the illegal trade of wildlife and banish the controlling environment they are currently confined to.

The team describe Uhuru as their ‘passion project’:

Inspired by the idea that our love of spirits could go hand-in-hand (or paw-in-paw) with our support for wildlife conservation in Africa, we created Uhuru: the passion project that gives back.

Through Uhuru we’re working to raise awareness about the impact humans are having on endangered species and supporting those on the frontline of conservation efforts.

It all started with a trip to Africa and a young, ambitious bottler. John, wildlife enthusiast and the co-founder of Young Spirits, fell in love with African elephants during his first of many summer holidays in the Kenyan sun. That’s where his childhood adventures searching for his favourite animals turned into a passion for conservation and, eventually, a passion project named Uhuru.

Created and bottled by the Young Spirits team, Uhuru means ‘freedom’ in Swahili, and it’s a feeling we take as seriously as our cocktails. It’s how we make thoughtfully created spirits that support vital African wildlife conservation, and it’s what inspires us to try something new as often as we get the chance.’

Young Spirits Uhuru XO Golden Rum

After soaking up the tropical heat, the cask was transported to their bottling house, Young Spirits to end the maturation process at 44%. This bottle of Uhuru Rum is filled with flavours of buttery toffee and fruity sweetness, balanced with unfolding oaky notes.

The rum is perfect for sipping straight or mixing in a cocktail.

Young Spirits Uhuru

Uhuru Whisky – 12YO

Batch 2 of Uhuru Whisky is the sister to the team’s inaugural release. This Blended Malt Scotch Whisky has spent 12 years maturing in a Virgin Oak barrel.

With an additional 2 years of maturation, Batch 2 beautifully balances delicate peaty notes, while enhancing the gentle and delightful lowland character.

Indulge in the velvety smoothness of this whisky, where macerated fruits and apricot slices intertwine with hints of oak spiciness, vanilla extract, and a touch of burnt toffee and peat smoke. Pair it with cream soda and a zesty wedge of pink grapefruit for a truly sublime experience.

Limited to just 250 bottles, this single cask release is not only a testament to craftsmanship but also to the team’s commitment. With 10% of Uhuru’s net sales donated to TUSK, every sip supports African wildlife conservation.

Join them in making a meaningful difference, one sip at a time.
