Founded in the 1930s by Bovet Frères of Fleurier, Lowenthal was known for crafting chronometers and chronographs. The company enjoyed commercial success in Latin Europe and proved popular with gentlemen drivers and professional racers.
Harry Guhl, a veteran of the watch industry and an avid collector of vintage watches, has revived the brand. The inaugural model, the Villoresi Edition, was inspired by a 1951 Lowenthal chronograph that was presented to Luigi ‘Gigi’ Villoresi by Enzo Ferrari after winning the Syracuse Grand Prix. The chronograph captures some of the glamour of a bygone age, incorporating a glorious hand-wound column-wheel chronograph movement and featuring an artificially aged dial.
Having made this auspicious, the brand looks destined for great things.
