Grand Seiko Watch Reviews

Grand Seiko was founded in 1960. From the outset, the company’s stated aim was to create an ‘accurate, legible and beautiful watch’.

The Japanese marque has always been innovative. For example, it was an early adopter of MEMS, a method of creating intricately shaped and lightweight movement components. Moreover, the firm has been at the vanguard of quartz movement technology.

Perhaps most notably of all, Grand Seiko created the Caliber 9R, a Spring Drive movement introduced in 2004. The movement, invented by Seiko engineer, Yoshikazu Akahane, was the product of 28 years of research and development. The resultant hybrid movement combines mechanical and electronic components to deliver incredible precision.

Today, the brand offers a broad selection of watches fitted with an array of movements including quartz, mechanical and the aforesaid Spring Drive. In 2017, Grand Seiko became a brand in its own right, operating separately from other Seiko subsidiaries.
