Born in Neuchâtel, Abraham-Louis Breguet is widely considered the greatest watchmaker of all time. He served his apprenticeship in Versaille before establishing his own business on Quai de l’Horloge in Paris in 1775.
Breguet was a remarkable individual courtesy of his many talents. He was an exceptional watchmaker, inventor, businessman and aesthete. Famous for patenting the tourbillon escapement in 1801, he is also known for inventing the Breguet overcoil and the pare-chute (a shock protection device), along with other inspired mechanisms.
Today, the Breguet brand is a subsidiary of the Swatch Group, crafting exemplars of Haute Horlogerie. Some collections are inspired by the past, while other models appear comparatively modern. However, all models harness traditional, no-compromise craftsmanship, making them a worthy choice for any self-respecting watch aficionado.
